growing like a weed

talbot's first trip to the beach

a couple of weeks ago we took the dogs to the beach ...interested to see if talbot would like it. although he seems to be a chicken about somethings, the beach was not one of them. he charged right in after the big dog :) our trip ended in tragedy however, when the frisbee got lost at sea....lesson learned: never take a blue frisbee to the ocean.

goofy dog

We all have our quirky routines right? its seems that Talbot (for who knows what reason) will not go out to go to the bathroom in the morning without me. I usually get up and take the dogs out while 'thanael is getting up and ready for work. Last week one day, Nathanael was off and so he let me keep sleeping and got up and took the dogs out....or tried. Talbot made it to the back door and then came charging back into the bedroom and nosed me until I got up. So...this morning Nathanael decided it was time to end this. When he got up he carried Talbot out to the back door and set him on the back porch. Talbot just sat there and cried. When 'thanael shut the door thinking he would go out in the yard, Talbot jumped and scratched at the door and kept crying. Nathanael came back in to get me to tell me that I needed to see this, but when I went out and opened the back door, Talbot came in, gave me a lick, and then ran out and went to the bathroom! So for whatever crazy reason, that goofy dog will not go without me!

okay....so I am rotten at keeping up with this. sorry! about the last picture, you are right abs...we got Talbot a little rope because Pungo had a big one, but both wanted the other's toy...just like kids, only with fur! And the shaved legs were from Talbot's IV that they had to give him when he had Parvo....you can't even tell now. I totally didn't even notice them when I posted the picture because I was so used to seeing them....sorry.

home sick

talk about irony...i had to call in sick today because i was supposed to sub for a teacher who was probably out sick herself!

i have been wanting to blog this week, but it has been a long one so i will now try to catch up. if parts don't make sense, i'll chalk it up to the buzz i am on right now from nyquil. It kinda started sometime last week when we woke up to see the most snow on our yard that we have ever had while living in Virginia (maybe 1/2 an inch, maybe). we were going to take a picture before the sun came up and melted it, but our digital camera was dead, and of all of the gadgets in this house, not one of them had any batteries, thus you will find no pictures attached to this post :(

Next, Abs came down for the weekend, which was a blast. We had a super fun shopping trip on sunday night at Khol's and got to see Mercy Me live on Monday at a tapping of the 700 club. Even though they only did one song, it was worth listening to Pat for 45 mins. I am sooooo mad that i didn't think to take my Mercy Me shirt to get them to sign it! AAAHHH! oh well....

Then, sometime on sunday night, we noticed that Talbot was a little droopy. He seemed fine on Monday morning, but by Tuesday evening, he was a very sick puppy (i will spare you the gory details) Tuesday night we ended up in the puppy ER to find out that Talbot had picked up a virus called Parvo (sp?) which destroys puppies' intestines and causes them to get dehydrated and eventually die. There is no miracle pill for this, so the puppy has to be given an IV continually until he can fight through it. I have to say that i was pretty upset by the time we left him at the hospital on Tuesday night...i thank God for my wonderful hubby, he's the best!
The good news is that Talbot might get to come home this afternoon!....we haven't been able to see him because he has been in isolation due to the virus being highly contagious, but we were told that he was up and wagging his tail this morning and quite loudly complaining about being stuck in a kennel :) both excellent signs that he is getting back to being himself.

it's funny how God used even our dog getting sick to teach us about himself and show us areas where we need to grow.

hope you are having a wonderful day!
